After multiple defeats, Congress finally takes over its principal rival, BJP in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. With a huge win in the state Congress has called a meeting to choose the Chief Minister today.
Earlier, the grand old party had called its meeting in Chandigarh but when it got a clear majority in the vote share it changed its plan.
“The newly-elected Congress MLAs would meet in Shimla on Friday post-election results and decide on electing the new legislature party leader,” in-charge of Himachal Pradesh, Rajeev Shukla told media.
“The party is sending two observers — Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and senior leader Bhupinder Hooda— along with me. We will be travelling to Shimla today where all the party MLAs have been called,” he further said.
As per the reports, the meeting will now take place at the Radisson hotel in Shimla at around 3 pm.
The hill state has continued its trend of shuffling between the BJP and Congress with every new term.
Out of total 68 state assembly seats, Congress won 40, while the opponent BJP only got 25 seats – far away from Congress.
The Congress leaders gave all the credit to party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for her campaign in Himachal.
Mrs Vadra took all the charge of campaigning in the state. She conducted many rallies and was even closely supervising the strategy for the elections.
This was her first electoral success while heading the campaigning in a state.
