Congress Committee Authorise Mallikarjun Kharge To Nominate All Members For CWC

On Friday, the Congress steering committee unanimously agreed to give party leader Mallikarjun Kharge the power to propose names for every working committee member. It stated that the CWC does not necessitate an election. In Raipur, the 85th Congress Plenary Session got under way.

According to general secretary of communications Jairam Ramesh, the Congress steering committee openly discussed the issue of the CWC elections and nearly all of the 45 members present at the meeting unanimously agreed to give the Congress president the authority to nominate candidates.

He said several members spoke to CWC in support of and against the elections.

The Congress constitution would alter in 16 provisions and 32 rules.

No elections will be conducted in the CWC in order to meet political challenges and take into account the role the Congress will play in the present political environment.

Former leaders of the Cong, including the president and prime minister, will be immediately admitted to the CWC.

For SC, ST, OBC, women, minorities, and children, there is a 50% reservation in the CWC.

Ramesh stated, “We are fully confident that all AICC and PCC delegates will support this unanimity.” He described the changes that would be made to the party’s constitution: “All former prime ministers of the Congress party and former presidents will be given representation in the Working Committee.”

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, two former presidents, have skipped the gathering and will probably show up later in the day. Additionally absent from the steering committee gathering is Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Regarding the CWC elections, Kharge stated in his inaugural speech, “As Congress president, I want to just encourage you to express yourself openly and take a collective decision. Whatever choice you make, it will be mine and everyone else’s as well.

The committee grants the Congress president the right to have a body of his choosing in order to prevent any divisions despite the party’s longstanding practice of having a consensus body.
