At least 12 workers lost their lives and over 20 others were seriously injured in a major explosion at a chemical factory in Telangana’s Sangareddy district. The incident happened at Sigachi Chemicals, located in the Pashamylaram Industrial Area near Patancheru, when a reactor reportedly blew up during regular operations.
The blast caused a large fire to break out, and emergency crews rushed to the scene. Early reports suggest the explosion happened suddenly, giving workers no time to react. Six people died instantly, while two more passed away later at the hospital. Around 22 others are being treated, with a few said to be in critical condition.
Inspector General of Police Satyanarayana said the fire had not been fully controlled yet. “Eight people have died, and 26 are seriously injured and getting treatment,” he stated earlier. Firefighters, the SDRF, NDRF, local police, and even Hydra cranes were called in to help with the rescue effort. He also said that about 150 workers were inside the facility at the time, and around 90 were near the site of the explosion.
Local emergency teams were working to rescue anyone trapped and stop the fire from spreading. The area has been sealed off, and the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation to find out what caused the explosion and whether safety procedures were properly followed. The full scale of the damage is still not clear.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has spoken to officials about the incident. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and ordered immediate relief and rescue efforts. He also told officials to make sure all injured workers receive proper medical care and that any trapped people are safely evacuated.
