Centre Files Petition In Supreme Court Seeking Manipur Case Transfer To Other State

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear centre’s petition yo transfer case of Manipur women paraded naked to some other state.

While, the two women have filed petition in the top court against both the state government and the centre. They have requested speedy and fair action in the case. They have even requested the court to protect their identities with extra care.

Last week, the Supreme Court taking cognizance of the case termed it “deeply disturbing” and “gross constitutional failure”. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud had called upon the government to take serious steps to protect the women in the region and inform the court on regular basis.

Meanwhile, the centre has urged the Supreme Court to transfer the case to some other state and to ensure that the case is resolved within six months.

A video showing two women from Manipur’s Kuki community being paraded naked and sexually assaulted went viral over social media that led to widespread outrage across the country.

The video received huge condemnation from all over the country. A tribal organization has even claimed that the two women were even gang-raped by the mob of men.
