With high hopes, Satyaprem Ki Katha finally released in theatres today. It features Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, who just last year gave audiences Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022), a smash hit. Therefore, Satyaprem Ki Katha’s trade, industry, and fans are hoping for a successful box office performance as well. The love story reportedly received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on June 24. According to the records, the movie runs for 146.02 minutes, or 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 2 seconds.
The CBFC requested 7 revisions before approving the censor certificate. The lyrics to the song “Gujju Pataka” are “Radhe Ki Cheliyaan,” and the members of the Examining Committee requested that the word “Cheliyaan” be changed to “Saheliyaan.” Ek shot was considered improper and ‘Ek baar’ was substituted. It’s interesting to note that the trailer contains the language in its original version.
Thirdly, the dialogue “Uske pehle toh dono ghapa ghap…” was muffled when the term “Ghapa Ghap” appeared. The 2018 hit movie Sanju, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is responsible for popularising the phrase “Ghapa Ghap.” The phrase is used by Vicky Kaushal’s character in the Sanjay Dutt biopic, and it is slang for sex. However, the CBFC approved it at the time, and the movie received a U/A certificate. The identical words, however, were removed from Satyaprem Ki Katha.
Satyaprem Ki Katha coincidentally debuts on June 29, the same day as Sanju. Jogira Sara Ra Ra, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Neha Sharma and released on May 26 last month, too contained the phrase “Ghapa Ghap” in a dialogue, which the CBFC later erased.
Not only that. In the dialogue “Dirty mind hai aapka Katha ji,” “Dirty mind” was muted. Wherever it appears in the movie, the label “Phenyl” has been requested to be erased. Finally, the filmmakers were requested to provide documentary support for the statistics cited in the movie. The censor certificate was given to the creators of Satyaprem Ki Katha on June 13 following these modifications.
