Bypolls To Fill 7 Seats Begun Today, INDIA And BJP Led NDA In Fierce Competition

Polling for bypolls in six states have begun early morning today to fill the seven vacant constituencies. These seven constituencies include Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Dhupguri in West Bengal, Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Dumri in Jharkhand, Dhanpur and Boxanagar in Tripura and Puthuppally in Kerala.

These bypolls are the first electoral competition between Opposition’s newly formed INDIA alliance and NDA led by BJP.

The vote counting for the polls will take place on Friday (September 8).

BJP had won the Dhupguri constituency in 2021 with 4300 votes and it was its biggest entry in West Bengal against the past years. The seat was then filled by BJP’s Bishu Pada Ray.

The seat will now be filled after bypoll as it was left vacant after the demise of BJP MLA Bishu Pada Ray.

Meanwhile, the Dhanpur and Boxanagar constituencies are under one-to-one competition between BJP and CPI (M).

Dhanpur seat was left vacant after Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik submitted resignation to get back her Lok Sabha seat. Now, the Left has a stronghold on the constituency and the seat will witness a close competition between CPI (M)’s Koushik Chandra and BJP’s Bindu Debnath.

The BJP has nominated Taffajal Hussain for Boxanagar seat. He had earlier lost against CPI (M) in the last Assembly polls. While, CPI (M) has nominated Mizan Hussain for the same.
