At least 15 dead and 40 left injured due to a tragic collision between a bus carrying them and a truck on a highway in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh.
The bus carrying around 100 passengers was on its way to Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur when it met with the accident with the truck near Suhagi Pahari in Rewa late on Friday.
According to the officials, the injured were immediately hurried to the nearby hospital in Suhagi, while those with severe injuries were sent for treatment in Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
Reportedly, the truck was stranded on the highway because it had messed up with another truck. The bus rammed into the truck from behind.
Superintendent of Police of Rewa, Navneet Bhasin said that majority of the passengers travelling in the bus were labourers going to Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur from Madhya Pradesh’s Katni.
The officials also said, the labourers had boarded the bus from Hyderabad to Katni and they were going their home for Diwali.
The police was informed about the accident by some passerby, said sources.
A case has already been lodged and investigation is underway to find out the exact cause of accident.
Following the tragic accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressing his condolences announced a compensation of ₹ 2 Lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. For the severely injured a compensation of ₹ 50,000 each.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has also expressed his condolences over the incident. The Rewa district administration is making arrangements for sending the bodied to their family members in UP, said the Chief Minister’s office.
