BRS Leader KT Rama Rao Reacts To Amit Shah’s Poll Promise On Muslim Reservation In Telangana

Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA KT Rama Rao in a statement said that the 4% Muslim reservation in the poll bound Telangana is not on the basis of religion but on socio-economic status of the community.

The state is set to vote on November 30 for the assembly elections.

This comes after the Union Minister Amit Shah promised that the BJP led government will end reservations for Muslims in state after coming into power.

“4% Muslim reservation is not on the basis of religion. That is on the basis of socio-economic status. Amit Shah should think before speaking. Secondly, we know what the BJP does and what it is attempting to do. It is trying to polarise…But they will fail this time,” said the Telangana Minister in his reaction to Mr. Shah’s poll promise.

Taking part in BJP’s roadshow along with the party’s candidate Thokala Srinivas Reddy, Mr. Shah said, “We have made a lot of promises. One of them is that the CM will be made from the backward class. We will end the Muslim reservation & give reservations to SC, ST & OBC. We have also promised vertical reservation to the Madiga community”.

When the BRS questioned about Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s remark on state’s per capita income, Mr. Rao said, “He should read the socio-economic survey. If we look at Telangana today, there are 33 districts. All of these districts have per capita more than the national average. So, he should read it once again”.

Ruling BRS, BJP and Congress are the three main contestants in the state for this assembly election.
Vote counting for Telangana will take place with the other four states — Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on December 3.
