BRS Leader K Kavitha Launches Hunger Strike At Jantar Mantar For Women’s Reservation Bill

Senior leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi, K Kavitha has led a hunger strike in Delhi today demanding Women’s Reservation Bill.

The protest at Jantar Mantar in national capital is expected to have participation of leaders from National Conference, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, Janta Dal (United) and Nationalist Congress Party.

Enforcement Directorate was expected to question her on Saturday in Delhi’s liquor policy and the protest came just a day before.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday confirmed that 18 parties were ready to participate in the protest. Ms Kavitha is daughter of Mr Rao.

“We released a poster on March 2 about the hunger strike in Delhi over the Women’s Reservation Bill. ED summoned me on March 9. I requested for March 16, but don’t know what haste they’re in, so I agreed for March 11,” Ms Kavitha told media.

“Why was the ED in a rush to question me and chose a day before my protest? It could have happened a day later as well,” she further said.

Ms Kavitha of being a part of “South Cartel” that got benefits from Kickbacks after the liquor police came into effect, ED alleged. However, the policy is now scrapped.

Meanwhile, the BRS senior leader has refuted the allegations saying that the centre is misusing the central agencies for personal motives.

Addressing the issue of Women’s Reservation, she said that BJP had promised to implement it during their tenure during 2014-2019 but failed to do so, hence there is a need to bring back and execute it.
