Both the comedy-drama starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi and the period drama starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel have been successful in drawing audiences to theatres. Both films have made good money this past week, with the first making close to $300 million and the second surpassing Rs 80 million.
The Amit Rai-directed film is popular with the general public, and the favourable word-of-mouth recommendations spreading are paying off. The Anil Sharma movie is breaking records and is among the quickest films to enter the exclusive Rs 100 crore club.
Early reports indicate that Gadar 2 and OMG 2’s collections on their second Friday have only slightly decreased. The Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel sequel reportedly made between Rs 16 and Rs 18 crore, while the Akshay Kumar-Pankaj Tripathi-Yami Gautam movie only made between Rs 4 and Rs 6 crore.
These most recent figures bring Gadar 2’s total earnings to Rs 300–302 crores (it made Rs 284.63 crores on Day 7) and OMG 2’s earnings to Rs 89–91 crores (it made Rs 85.05 crore at the box office at the end of Week 1).
