BJP Doesn’t Have Candidates To Contest Polls, Says Akhilesh Yadav After SP Leader Joins BJP

A day after the opposition party’s Shahjahanpur mayoral candidate defected, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the BJP, which asserts to be the largest party in the world, does not even have people to run in elections.

The SP’s nominee for mayor of Shahjahanpur, Archana Verma, joined the BJP on Sunday ahead of the upcoming urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh. She was named the BJP’s mayoral candidate from the district hours thereafter.

“Look at the bankruptcy of those claiming to be the largest (political) party in the world, they do not even have a candidate to contest elections,” Yadav wrote in a tweet in Hindi. This indicates that either the BJP has no employees or that it has a history of demeaning its employees by denying them tickets. There is internal strife inside the BJP.

Brajesh Pathak, the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, welcomed Verma to the party by saying, “The Samajwadi Party has announced Archana Verma as its mayoral candidate from Shahjahanpur in the next urban local bodies elections. Nevertheless, she was having a hard time joining the celebration.

He had said, “She was disturbed by the atrocities committed against women during the SP regime.

On May 4 and May 11, there will be two rounds of voting for urban local bodies. On May 13, the topic of vote tallying will be discussed.

Elections will be held for 17 seats for the mayor, 1,420 seats for corporators, 199 seats for the chairman of the nagar palika parishad, 5,327 seats for members of the nagar palika parishad, 544 seats for the chairperson of the nagar panchayat, and 7,178 seats for members of the nagar panchayat.
