Asserting a religious transformation of students by a Christian Missionary institution, workers of right-wing Bajrang Dal with hundreds of locals, were seen jumping into a school in Madhya Pradesh and pelting stones at the school building on Monday. The brutality occurred while the students of Class 12 were giving mathematics exam.
The St Joseph School in Ganj Basoda town of Vidisha region became a target after claims via social media that around eight students were converted by the school administration.
Mobile footage showed an big crowd outside the building, raising slogans against the school. The police were seen attempting to disperse the crowd. The students and the school staff present had a no chance of escaping.
Expressing his panic due the pelting od stones at the glass window, a student who was giving exam said, “Our concentration was broken, we want the exam to be held again”.
The school manager Brother Antony, has asserted that he got the idea of the incident a day before through a local media, after which he cautioned the police and the state officials. He blamed tha police for failing in making proper security arrangements around the school premise.
He additionally refuted the claims of religious conversions, asserting that none of the names referenced in the complaint matches with any of the students.
But the Chief od the Bajrang Dal, Nilesh Agrawal requested a thorough investigation into the allegations. “If the school’s involvement is found, it should be bulldozed,” he said.
After this incident proper security was deployed in other missionary schools in the region.
The Police has said that a strict action would be taken against those involved in the vandalism and an investigation has also started into the allegations of religious conversions. The school administration will also be interrogated into the matter, said the Sub-Divisional magistrate, Roshan Rai.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had earlier already written to the Vidisha district collector, demanding an investigation into the allegations against the school administration.
