The chief minister of Assam declared on Sunday that the state will enact a new domicile policy that will limit employment opportunities in the state government to people who were born in Assam. It is anticipated that this regulation will be implemented in the upcoming two months.
Sarma has been in charge of hiring almost one lakh people for government positions since taking office in May 2021. He highlighted that the focus given to indigenous people will be evident in the next list of new hires.
“The government has recruited over 97,000 people transparently since May 2021, fostering an ecosystem of trust among the populace,” Sarma asserted.
Aiming to hire one lakh young people, the BJP made this pledge during the most recent assembly elections.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that several states have their own domicile regulations for hiring government employees, giving the examples of Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat. Although West Bengal does not have a formal policy regarding domicile, he continued, speaking Bengali has been a prerequisite for some jobs in the state.
Furthermore, the chief minister added that talks to make Assamese a classical language have already started between the state government and Prime Minister Modi.
