A day after the Calcutta High Court ordered the case to be transferred to the central agency, a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrived in Kolkata to look into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
A central law to stop attacks on medical personnel won’t be put into effect until Tuesday, according to resident doctors and medics at AIIMS Delhi, The Indira Gandhi Hospital, and other resident doctors’ associations, such as the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA), who announced that their protest against the horrifying rape and murder will continue.
Following a meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda, the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) decided to end their strike on Monday. Nadda agreed to the demands of the FORDA, which included creating a safe working environment.
The AIIMS announced in a statement on Tuesday that all of its resident doctors had “unanimously decided” to continue their protest. They welcomed the CBI investigation and restated their demands, which included the introduction of a Central Protection Act. The statement also stated that emergency procedures, emergency services, ICUs, and emergency overtime will continue to be available.
FAIMA, or the Federation of All India Medical Association, has likewise declared that it will not abate. The association listed 32 other Resident Doctors’ Associations (RDA) that will also carry on with their protest against the 31-year-old trainee doctor’s rape and murder in a letter to JP Nadda. Additionally, these physicians have called for the Central Protection Act to be put into effect.
On Tuesday, two CBI officers obtained from the Kolkata Police records related to the trainee doctor’s rape and murder. The municipal police were instructed by the Calcutta High Court to provide the federal agency with the case diary by Tuesday night and further papers by today.
The trainee doctor’s parents have disclosed that they were first informed by a hospital representative that their daughter committed herself. They were then required to wait three hours outside the hospital before they could view her body.
She was choked to death, according to the trainee doctor’s four-page postmortem report. She had been strangled, breaking the cartilage in her thyroid, and there was a serious wound in her intimate area. Per sources, the rape and murder took place on August 9 most likely between 3 and 5 a.m.
On August 9, the trainee doctor’s body was discovered in the lecture rooms of the government-run hospital in Bengaluru. Sanjoy Roy, a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, has been detained in relation to the case.
