Andhra Pradesh Braces Against Cyclone Jawad, Evacuates Over 54,000 After Heavy Rain In Odisha

The government of Andhra Pradesh has shifted an aggregate of 54,008 people to safe places from three districts before the landfall of Cyclone Jawad, which is probably going to arrive at the state’s north coast by the weekend. The three districts from where the people have been shifted include 36,553 from Visakhapatnam, 15,755 from Srikakulam and 1,700 from Vizianagaram.

As indicated by the Meteorological Department (IMD), at 11:30 pm on Friday, the cyclonic storm lay focused over the west-central Bay of Bengal around 250 km southeast of Visakhapatnam, 430 km south-southwest of Puri, and 510 km south-southwest of Paradip.

The cyclonic storm is probably going to move north-northwestwards till Saturday morning, and afterward recurve north northeastwards arriving at Puri coast around December 5 early afternoon.

The Cyclone is probably going to make landfall somewhere in Puri prior to taking off to the Bay of Bengal, said PK Jena, the state’s Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).

As per the predicted trajectory by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the framework might strike the Puri coast and return to the ocean, he told media in Bhubaneswar, adding that breezes at 90-100 kmph will probably affect the district at landfall.

The speed may progressively diminish in the wake of contacting the Odisha coast, he said.

In the mean time, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a meeting with authorities of cyclone-prone districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari. The state government has set up an aggregate of 197 relief camps in schools and community halls. Of these, 79 relief camps have been set up in Srikakulam, while 54 relief camps have been set up in Vizianagaram and 64 in Visakhapatnam.

In view of heavy rainfall anticipated for the area by the IMD, Mr Reddy guided the authorities to guarantee that rebuilding work starts after the rainfall.

Eleven National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams, five State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) teams, six teams of Coast Guard, and 10 of Marine Police have been sent to handle the condition.

Village secretaries and district collectors will stay fully on guard and will work for the whole night. Hospitals have likewise been approached to guarantee power back up to handle crisis conditions.

Aside from this, two helicopters are on backup, and Rs 1 crore has been delivered to handle any unanticipated condition.
