The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday said, a US-returnee claiming to have taken three shots of Pfizer Vaccine has tested positive for Omicron variant in Mumbai.
The 29-year-old man returned from New York last month came positive for Covid-19 on November 8 at Mumbai international airport. After his samples were sent for genome sequencing, he was found to be omicron positive, said the BMC in its official statement.
The man is totally asymptomatic and is claiming that he has taken three shots of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. While two of his close contacts have tested negative for Covid-19, the civic body said.
The BMC in its further statement said, “The patient has been admitted to a hospital as a precautionary measure and he has no symptoms.”
With his addition, Mumbai now has total 15 omicron patients, out of which five are from outside the city.
But on the good part, none of the omicron patients have shown any severe symptoms so far, said BMC. While the total omicron tally of Maharashtra stands at 40.
