On Friday, May 9, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a thorough assessment of the national security situation with the highest military leadership, one day after Pakistan’s attempts to attack Indian military installations were repulsed.
It has been revealed that the discussion covered every facet of the changing security scenario. Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Army Chief Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan attended the meeting.
India defeated the Pakistani military’s attempt last night to use drones and missiles to attack military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other areas. “Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation along the western border and operational preparedness of the Indian armed forces,” a Defence Ministry spokesperson said. After the Pakistani attempts were foiled last night, the defence ministry said India remains “fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people.”
According to Indian military officials, the Indian armed forces successfully engaged the Pakistani drones and missiles, thwarting the enemy’s attempts. Less than twenty-four hours after a previous effort, Pakistan made further attempts to target Indian military installations.
The Indian military thwarted Pakistan’s attempts to use drones and missiles to strike military installations in 15 cities in the country’s north and west, the Defence Ministry said Thursday afternoon. Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj were among the locations targeted by the Pakistani military on Wednesday night, according to the report.
On Thursday, Defence Minister Singh declared that India is ready for such reactions and that no limit will stand in the way of defending its sovereignty. In retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian military launched missile attacks on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early on Wednesday as part of Operation Sindoor.
