Ajit Pawar who took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra in a sudden shock to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by his uncle Sharad Pawar is ahead in numbers of supporting MLAs.
In his latest meeting, Ajit Pawar showed up support of 31 MLAs, while Sharad Pawar could only get support of 13 MLAs.
However, a clear majority will not be enough to be called “real NCP” as the faction led by Mr Ajit Pawar will have to gather 36 more legislators.
While addressing MLAs and MLCs at the party meet Ajit Pawar paid huge respect to his uncle Sharad Pawar.
Around 31 NCP legislators were present in the meeting.
Veteran NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, who joined the Ajit Pawar faction said that the decision to join Sena-BJP alliance was taken with full planning.
Following the meeting the legislators went to a five-star hotel in Bandra, Mumbai.
Ajit Pawar’s jibe on Sharad Pawar regarding his age led to further tensions. “People of age above 80 should retire and bless others” he said.
However, his comments got a befitting reply from Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule as she said, “People are saying that some people are old, and so they should only give blessings. Ratan Tata, Amitabh Bachhan, Warren Buffet, all these people are older. Farooq Abdullah is three years older than Sharad Pawar, but he said Sharad should fight”.
