After UK Now Omicron Cases Surge In US, Alerts CDC

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has added at least eight more nations to its list of ‘high risk’ countries in order to restrict travel to these areas and contain the spread of Covid-19.

“Avoid travel to Spain,” the CDC advised in one of the eight countries’ travel alerts. Finland, Chad, Lebanon, Bonaire, Gibraltar, Monaco, and San Marino are among the others.

Travelers should also follow advice or rules in the eight nations, such as wearing a face mask and maintaining six feet apart from other people, according to the US health inspector.

“If you really must visit Spain, make sure you are completely vaccinated. Even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk of contracting and spreading Covid-19 variations due to the current circumstances in Spain “The CDC went on to say more.

The new Omicron variant of the coronavirus has raced ahead of other strains to become the dominant version of the coronavirus in the United States, resulting in yet another major outbreak of coronavirus infections. According to US federal health officials, Omicron cases accounted for approximately 73% of new infections as of last week.

According to CDC data, Delta was responsible for more than 99.5 percent of Covid-19 cases through the end of November.

The CDC normally issues travel advisories for nations with a Covid-19 outbreak at “Level 4,” which indicates “very high” risk.

The notifications came as the Netherlands went into lockdown over the weekend, and as several European governments considered putting extra Covid-19 restrictions in the run-up to the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Scientists in South Africa were the first to discover Omicron less than a month ago. On November 26, the World Health Organization designated it as a “variant of concern” due to its high rate of transmission. The mutant has since shown up in around 90 countries.
