After cyclone Tauktae the India Meteorological Department has issued warning of a cyclone formation over the north Andaman Sea and in east-central Bay of Bengal around Saturday (May 22).
The IMD said that if the cyclone forms then it will be named ‘Yaas’ which is given by Oman meaning despair. “It is very likely to move north-westwards and reach West Bengal–Odisha coasts around May 25 evening,” it said.
The formation will carry light to direct rain at most places with substantial falls in Odisha, Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya from May 25. “It is very likely to increase becoming 50-60kmph gusting to 70kmph from May 23 and becoming gale wind speed during May 24-26 over central Bay of Bengal and into north Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha–West Bengal–Bangladesh coast during May 25-27,” said the meteorological department.
