Adar Poonawalla Acquires 50% Stake in Dharma Productions for ₹1000 Crore, Outbidding Reliance and Saregama

In the competition to purchase a significant stake in Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Adar Poonawalla defeated Reliance and Saregama. The Bollywood production company said that Poonawalla’s Serene Entertainment had paid ₹1000 crore to acquire a 50% share in Dharma. The remaining 50% of the business will remain owned by Karan Johar.

Talking about the partnership, Adar Poonawalla, said, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to partner with one of the most iconic production houses in our nation, along with my friend Karan Johar. We hope to build and grow Dharma and scale even greater heights in the years to come.”

Yash Johar established Dharma Productions, one of India’s top film production and distribution firms, in 1976. Karan Johar is currently the company’s director. Dharma Productions has been at the forefront of the Indian cinema industry for more than 40 years, creating both critically and commercially successful films. Films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhhie Gham and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai are among the company’s well-known productions. Their last few movies were Kill, Bad Newz Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva.
