Malayalam actor Minu Muneer, 45, was arrested by Kochi’s cybercrime police on Monday, June 30, 2025, following a complaint by actor and filmmaker Balachandra Menon. He accused her of making offensive and defamatory remarks about him on social media.
Minu turned herself in after the Kerala High Court rejected her request for anticipatory bail and instructed her to appear before the police. She was later granted bail in accordance with the court’s directions. She is one of two people named in the case, the other being Sangeeth Luis, also 45.
The case dates back to October 2, 2024. Charges were filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal intimidation (Section 351(2)), the IT Act for sharing obscene content online (Section 67), and the Kerala Police Act for causing public nuisance through repeated or anonymous communication (Section 120(o)).
According to the police report, Muneer allegedly shared multiple posts targeting Menon, including his photo, encouraging others to leave vulgar comments. The second accused is said to have made threatening phone calls to Menon on September 13 and 14, 2024. These incidents reportedly took place soon after the release of the Hema Committee report, which investigated abuse and misconduct faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.
