According to a police officer on Monday, June 30, 2025, three of the four people detained in relation to the gang rape of a female student at a city-based law college had plotted the attack.
The three accused, Monojit Mishra, Pratim Mukherjee, and Zaid Ahmed, were also discovered to have a history of sexually harassing female college students by investigators from the nine-member special investigation team (SIT) looking into the incident. The security guard at the college is the fourth accused.
The officer claimed that the three would use their cell phones to videotape these incidents, then use the video to blackmail the victims. “The entire matter was premeditated. The trio had been plotting for several days to carry out this torture on the victim. We have found that the victim was targeted by the prime accused from the very first day she got admission to the college,” the police officer said. A hunt for smartphone footage purportedly taken by the three has been initiated by Kolkata Police.
“Searches were conducted at the residences of accused Mukherjee and Ahmed on Sunday. We are looking for footage related to this and possibly other incidents,” the officer said. The investigators also said a video clip of the June 25 alleged gangrape might have been shared by the accused. “We are trying to find out whether those clips were forwarded or shared with some other groups. In that case, we have to get in touch with those who have received that,” the officer said.
According to him, the SIT has compiled a list of more than 25 individuals who attended the school on June 25th evening, the majority of whom were South Calcutta Law College students. “As part of the investigation, all of these individuals will be questioned. We must learn what they saw that night,” he stated.
Three people, including two present students and an alumnus of South Calcutta Law College, are accused of gangraping a female student in the Kasba neighbourhood of the city.
