Accused of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, Tahawwur Rana has appealed to the US Supreme Court once more. Rana has requested in his appeal that his extradition to India be halted. Rana has stated that because he is of Pakistani descent, he might be subjected to torture in India.
The Trump administration recently approved Tahawwur Rana’s extradition to India during PM Modi’s visit to the US. Tahawwur Rana, who is wanted by Indian investigators for his involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, will be extradited to India to face justice, US President Donald Trump declared. In his application, Rana stated that he has numerous illnesses. He is a patient of coronary artery disorder, Parkinson’s and urinary cancer. Rana’s lawyers argue that he may not live long enough to face trial.
Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistani national, is sixty-three years old and a citizen of Canada. Rana was a doctor in the Pakistani military and has also served in the military. But in the 1990s, Rana traveled to Canada, where he later obtained Canadian citizenship. Tahawwur Rana traveled to America from Canada and established an immigration consulting business in Chicago. Tahawwur Rana was friends with David Headley, a Mumbai attack convict. It is stated that Tahawwur Rana pushed David Headley into the world of crime. Headley conducted the reconnaissance for the terrorist strikes in Mumbai in 2008. Later, Headley was taken into custody in America.
The role of Tahawwur Rana in the Mumbai attack was disclosed during Headley’s interrogation. In 2009, US investigative authorities detained Rana. David Headley had scouted key locations in Mumbai, including the Taj Mahal Hotel and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, before to the attack. Headley worked for the immigration consulting business owned by Tahawwur Rana. Investigators think that Tahawwur Rana gave Headley the order to complete this task. After rejecting Tahawwur Rana’s review appeal in the case, the US Supreme Court authorized his extradition in January. Last month, India said that it was collaborating with US officials to expedite Tahawwur Rana’s extradition.
