Aamir Khan Hints at Retirement, Says ‘Mahabharata’ Could Be His Final Film

Aamir Khan, an actor and producer, has hinted that his long-term project Mahabharata may be his final motion picture. Khan recently spoke about his future plans on Raj Shamani’s podcast, stating that he intends to devote himself entirely to the development of Mahabharata when Sitaare Zameen Par is launched.

“It’s layered, it has emotion, it has scale. Everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharata,” Khan said. He went on to say that he had always wanted to adapt the narrative for the big screen and that it has held significance for him for many years. When asked about the possibility of Mahabharata being his final film, Khan replied, “Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do.”

In the past, Khan has discussed the scope of Mahabharata, referring to it as one of his most ambitious concepts. It would take years to even develop the script, he said. He reaffirmed on the podcast that in order to control the story’s scope, the movie will probably be produced in stages and involve numerous filmmakers. “I don’t think you can tell the Mahabharata in one film,” he said.

As for casting, Khan said it is not yet decided whether he will appear in the film himself. “We’ll see who we should cast based on who’s appropriate for which part,” he explained. Khan said the project is still in the early stages, but if it comes together as planned, it could be the largest production of his career, and possibly his last.
