UNCOMFORTABLE ALLIANCE ! NIA Slaps Stringent UAPA Against Sachin Vaze

Vaze, an assistant police inspector (API) with the Mumbai Police, is currently in NIA's custody for his alleged role in planting an explosive-laden SUV near Mukesh Ambani's residence, Antilia, in Mumbai.

The in custody police official Sachin Vaze has now been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act( UAPA) by the the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He was arrested by NIA as being the suspect in a death case of an auto parts dealer Mansukh Hiran, whose SUV was found abandoned near Industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence.

He has been charged under the Sections 16 and 18 that deals with ‘an individual/group conspiring or attempt to commit or advocates, abets, the commission of a terrorist act or any act preparatory to the commission of a terror act’.

Initially he was the lead investigator in the same case in which he is charged now. Earlier the case was handled by the Mumbai Police but when Hiran’s wife alleged Vaze of having a connection in her husband’s death, the Union Home Ministry transferred the case to NIA. Later, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad also called Sachin Vaze a “mastermind” behind the death of Mansukh Hiran.

Apart from this, Vaze’s name is also being used in the allegations levelled by the former Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh upon the Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. In his allegation Singh has alleged Home Minister of having asked Vaze for collecting Rs 100 crore every month.

However, the state ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has refuted the allegations and threatened him back for filing a defamation case against him.
