Metro In Dino Disappoints as a Lackluster Follow-Up to a Beloved Original

“Metro In Dino” tries to look at modern relationships through four different stories that are all loosely connected. There’s Parimal (Anupam Kher) and Shivani (Neena Gupta), old flames seeing if they can reconnect after years apart. Kajol (Konkona Sen Sharma) and Monty (Pankaj Tripathi) are stuck in a dull, lifeless marriage. Shruti (Fatima Sana Shaikh) and Akash (Ali Fazal) are dealing with an unexpected pregnancy and very different futures. Then there’s Chumki (Sara Ali Khan), who’s caught up in a messy, unclear situation with Parth (Aditya Roy Kapur).

Even though this all sounds interesting on paper, none of the stories really hit hard. The writing feels weak, and the way it’s all put together doesn’t leave much impact. One of the biggest issues is how lightly the film treats cheating in relationships — it almost acts like it’s no big deal, which feels off.

The only pair that somewhat works is Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sen Sharma. Their scenes feel genuine and grounded. But the rest? Just doesn’t click. Sara and Aditya don’t have any spark, and they seem completely disconnected. Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta are charming, but their story doesn’t really move you. Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh are so forgettable, you barely notice they’re there. It’s a shame, because the cast has a lot of talent, but most of it goes to waste.

Anurag Basu, who once made the heartfelt Life In A Metro, seems to have lost his touch here. This film lacks the depth, emotion, and heart his earlier work had. It tries to talk about love today but ends up brushing over serious issues like cheating without any real reflection.

The dialogues are mostly average, with only a few clever lines, mostly delivered by Pankaj Tripathi. Nothing really sticks with you. The music is probably the best part. Arijit Singh’s voice and Pritam’s tunes bring a few good moments, but even the songs don’t quite match the magic of In Dino from the original. If you loved Life In A Metro, this one might let you down. Still, it could be okay for a one-time watch if you’re curious.
