Adani in the Shadows? Summons Undelivered as US Court Frustrated by India’s Inaction!

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has told a federal court in New York that Indian authorities have still not delivered summons to industrialist Gautam Adani in an ongoing case involving alleged securities violations.

India Today has reviewed the status report submitted by the SEC to the Eastern District Court of New York, which shows that the US regulator asked the Indian government back in February to help serve legal notices to both Gautam Adani and his nephew, Sagar Adani. Four months later, there’s been no confirmation that the summons have reached them.

In March, the Ministry of Law and Justice in India passed the documents along to a district court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for further action. But since then, there has been no update on whether the summons were actually issued or served.

The case stems from allegations that the Adanis made false or misleading statements related to Adani Green Energy Limited, potentially violating US securities laws. The SEC filed the case in the United States and is pursuing legal proceedings through the federal court system there.

The SEC sought help from the Indian government under the Hague Service Convention—an international agreement used for delivering court documents across borders. Despite that, the process appears to be stuck, with Indian authorities yet to formally serve the Adanis. This delay is now holding up the progress of the case in the US. The court has asked for another update on the matter by August 11.
