Facing Boycott Heat, Aamir Khan Productions Changes Display Pic to Tricolour; Internet Reacts

The display image for all of Aamir Khan Productions’ official social media accounts has been modified. Internet users observed on Friday that the production company, which previously used its emblem as the display picture, now uses the Indian National Flag on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).

The announcement coincides with calls for an online boycott of Aamir Khan in the run-up to the release of his next movie, Sitaare Zameen Par. The actor’s tardy reaction to Operation Sindoor, a significant Indian military strike against terrorist organisations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and an old video from his trip to Turkey that has since surfaced are the two main reasons why some social media users are advising others to stay away from the movie.

A screenshot of the updated display picture was posted on Reddit shortly after it was made. Numerous people debated whether the action amounted to “damage control.” “Lol he’s being boycotted online so clearly did it as damage control,” one user wrote. Another added, “Bekar me damage control kar rahe hai.”

On May 12, Aamir Khan Productions shared a post on their X handle that read, “Salute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Heartfelt gratitude to our armed forces for their courage, bravery, and unwavering commitment to the security of our nation. Thank you to the Honourable Prime Minister for his leadership and determination. Jai Hind.” Numerous commenters questioned his extended silence on the subject and critiqued the timing of his message, arguing that it was opportunely timed to coincide with the marketing of his movie.

Aamir Khan was questioned about the continuous hostility between India and Pakistan at a recent event. “We need justice and assurance that it [terrorist attacks] won’t happen again,” he responded. We have faith that our administration will act to apprehend the antisocial elements responsible for this and hold them accountable. In the meantime, Sitaare Zameen Par’s trailer has just unveiled. On June 20, 2025, the movie is expected to be released in theatres.
