In response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, primarily tourists, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a crucial meeting with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Indian Air Force Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Army Chief General Upendra Dwiwedi, and Navy Chief Dinesh Tripathi on Wednesday. According to sources cited by the news agency, the discussion covered every topic pertaining to the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the sources, the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting scheduled for today is anticipated to delve deeper into the matter. According to the report’s sources, Army Chief General Upendra Dwiwedi and Navy Chief Dinesh Tripathi briefed the defense minister on the security situation in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the adjacent territories in the wake of the terror assault in the area.
The aforementioned sources claim that senior commanders have hurried to the impacted areas, local security forces are on high alert, and more troops are being brought in to conduct search and destroy operations in an effort to apprehend the terrorists who carried out the attack. “More troops have been inducted in the areas near the attack site to carry out search and destroy operations,” the source told.
The defense minister called the attack a cowardly and disgusting assault on innocent citizens and earlier on Tuesday voiced “deep anguish” over it. “Deeply anguished by the news of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Jammu & Kashmir). This dastardly attack on innocent civilians is an act of cowardice and highly reprehensible. My thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families,” Minister Singh said in a post on X.
The terror incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Baisaran Meadow, also referred to as “mini Switzerland,” near Pahalgam, claimed the life of one naval officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal. In the midst of a huge manhunt to find the perpetrators of the bloodiest terror strike targeting civilians in years in the valley, security officials released sketches of suspects in the deadly terrorist attack on Wednesday, April 23.
According to sources quoted in news agency report, the suspects have been named as Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha. They also had code names, Moosa, Yunus, and Asif, and were implicated in terror-related crimes in Poonch.
