After a record number of visitors, Prayagraj, the magnificent hub that once played host to the Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the biggest religious gatherings in the world, is currently readjusting to normalcy. Following the conclusion of the massive event on February 26, the Uttar Pradesh government announced on Friday that a 15-day special cleanliness drive has begun at the Maha Kumbh Mela grounds.
Following the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave sanitation workers recognition for their efforts over the course of the 45-day festival and gave officials instructions to make sure the Mela grounds were cleaned. The administration claimed in a statement that “Swachhata Mitras” and “Ganga Sewa Doots” are actively engaging in the cleanliness push, which is being led by special officer Akanksha Rana and aims to restore the site’s sanctity.
It stated that the Sangam ghats, Mela roadways, and both temporary and permanent infrastructure would be cleaned over the course of the following 15 days. The greatest human assemblage in the world, MahaKumbh, saw more than 66 crore people bathe in the Triveni Sangam.
According to the statement, over 15,000 sanitation workers and 2,000 Ganga Sewa Doots were instrumental in ensuring cleanliness and hygienic conditions during the event, in keeping with Yogi Adityanath’s pledge to have a holy and hygienic Maha Kumbh. “To sustain this cleanliness even after the Maha Kumbh, the chief minister has emphasised the need for continued sanitation efforts in and around the Prayagraj region, ensuring that pilgrims visiting the place after the festival experience a clean and sacred environment,” it added.
As many as 1.5 lakh temporary toilets installed for the Maha Kumbh will be dismantled and removed as part of the special drive. The statement further stated that the Baswar facility in Naini is methodically processing and disposing of all garbage produced during the event. In order to preserve the city’s aesthetic and environmental attractiveness, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation is actively trying to improve the city’s green space and sanitation, according to the statement.
