In order to prevent any disruption during the conference that Muslim cleric Tauqeer Raza organised regarding the Waqf Board Amendment Bill at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, police placed Yati Narsinghanand, a priest at the Dasna temple, under house arrest and restricted his and his followers’ movements, an official said.
Narsinghanand and his supporters started reciting the Hanuman Chalisa inside the Dasna temple grounds in reaction to the police intervention. Many, including Raza, “take the Hindus’ gentlemanliness as a weakness,” according to a remark made by Narsinghanand.
According to ACP, Wave City, Lipi Nagayach, Yati and his followers had limited freedom of movement on Sunday morning as they got into their cars to travel to Delhi.
At a Muslim community event scheduled for Delhi on Friday, Narsinghanand had called on the Hindu community to recite the Hanuman Chalisa.
Yati Narsinghanand, a controversial leader involved in multiple cases, had earlier in a video message called on Hindu society to unify against what he called “Islamic Jihadists” and avoid making the same “mistake” as the Shaheen Bagh movement.
To examine the Waqf Amendment Bill, cleric Tauqeer Raz hosted a meeting on Sunday at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
“If even now we do not oppose the Jihadis, then like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iran, Arab, we will lose everything and be finished off from India too,” Yati Narsinghanand said.
Since the issue concerned Delhi, Ghaziabad Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra stated that he would not object to allowing Yati and his followers to cross the border if officials there gave them permission to do so.
