Modi Expresses Gratitude for Brazil’s Warm Reception, Calls It a Symbol of Global Unity

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro for the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, the Indian diaspora greeted him with great enthusiasm.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Deeply touched by the warm and lively welcome from the Indian community upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Their energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents.”

Dancers in traditional Gujarati garb staged a lively dandiya ceremony to welcome PM Modi to his hotel, marking his arrival with a strong cultural celebration. Vedic academics welcomed the Prime Minister with Vedic mantras, adding a spiritual element to the event. Additionally, as a sign of respect and appreciation, members of the diaspora gave him gifts.

After concluding the first phase of his three-nation tour in Nigeria, the Indian Prime Minister touched down in Brazil. Indian authorities, including Indian Ambassador to Brazil Suresh Reddy, welcomed him at Rio de Janeiro.

Large crowds of Indian diaspora members showed their excitement by holding images of the prime minister and waving flags. “We are eager for this moment,” said a diaspora member. We were interested in meeting the head of one of the world’s biggest democracies. “Seeing him in person is an honour,” remarked another participant. We are proud of this occasion.

PM Modi had earlier posted, “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to take part in the G20 Summit,” expressing his excitement for the gathering. I’m excited for the Summit’s discussions and productive conversations with different world leaders.” The meeting is particularly important since India, a member of the Troika, is key in determining the agenda and handing over the chairmanship to Brazil.

PM Modi spoke with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while he was in the country, concentrating on collaboration in the fields of education, technology, health, and defence. Additionally, India announced a 20-ton humanitarian aid shipment to support Nigeria’s flood recovery operations.

With the words, “This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy,” PM Modi underlined Brazil’s continuation of the Global South program. I’m excited about deep conversations that align with our mission of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
