On Monday morning, a parked truck on GT Road (National Highway 19) in the Rohtas district of Bihar collided with a pilgrim bus headed to Gaya, resulting in the deaths of three members of a Rajasthani family and the critical injuries of fifteen others, including eight women.
There were fifty-five pilgrims travelling to Gaya to perform pind-daan to their ancestors. They all lived in the same village in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district. It was at five in the morning in the Rohtas district of Bihar, close to Sabarabad village, which is under the jurisdiction of Chenari police station.
When the ambulances from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) arrived at the scene, the critically injured were brought to Sadar hospital in Sasaram, where district administration authorities were handling their medical care.
Bala Singh (61), Govardhan Singh (52) and Narendra Singh (50) were the names of the deceased.
The bus’s irresponsible speeding driver fell asleep, causing the vehicle to crash with the truck stopped on the side of the NH. The pilgrims seated in the front seats suffered fatalities and serious injuries as a result of the bus’s severely damaged front section, according to Chenari Station House Officer (SHO) Ranjan Kumar.
A NHAI crane was used to remove the damaged bus from the NH, and both cars were impounded, he said.
On Sunday, three pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh perished and eleven others were injured in a similar event on GT Road in the nearby Kaimur district. The driver had fallen asleep and collided with the back of a parked vehicle. They were returning after performing pind daan of their ancestors at Gaya.
