Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who is well-known for her parts in films like “Manikarnika” and “Krrish 3,” is dealing with a lot of criticism because of her impending political drama “Emergency.” The film has been accused of hurting Sikh feelings. It revolves around the political turmoil of 1975 and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have demanded an immediate ban on the movie, arguing that it is intentionally meant to discredit the Sikh community. Additionally, they have called for the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Ranaut, claiming that the movie is intended to negatively portray Sikhs in order to “character assassinate” them.
At a press conference on Wednesday, SGPC Chief Harjinder Singh Dhami made statements to the media, accusing the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of being “biassed” and arguing in favour of having Sikh representatives on the censor board. Dhami voiced concerns about how the movie misrepresents Sikh sentiments and history, reiterating previous complaints about how Sikhs are portrayed in films.
Similarly, “Emergency” criticises Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, who is revered by the Akal Takht as a martyr, and shows disrespect for the community, according to Gyani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar (head) of the Akal Takht. Singh called on authorities to address what he sees as the stirring of religious feelings and chastised the administration for not acting against Ranaut.
Kangana Ranaut did not initially disclose that “Emergency” is a straight biopic of Indira Gandhi; instead, she emphasised later that the film is a political drama. Ranaut is the film’s director in addition as its star. Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and Shreyas Talpade are in the cast; Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan, while Talpade plays Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Jagjivan Ram, the late Satish Kaushik’s deputy prime minister, will make an appearance.
“Emergency,” which was initially supposed to be released sooner, has been rescheduled several times and will now open in theatres on September 6, 2024.
