In relation to the continuing investigation into an alleged rape case, suspended Janata Dal-Secular leader Prajwal Revanna’s bail request was denied by the Special People Representative court in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Wednesday.
The case stemmed from a complaint that was made against him and his father, HD Revanna, at the Holenarasipura police station in Karnataka. During the bail hearing, the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) contended that since rape charges under IPC Section 376 had been added to the case, release should not be granted due to the seriousness of the offence.
Allegations of sexual assault on their domestic helper are made against Revanna and his father, HD Revanna, in the case, which was filed on April 28. A fourth case against Prajwal Revanna was filed on June 25 by the Karnataka Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is looking into allegations of sexual assault and harassment against him.
The fourth instance has been reported under the categories of criminal intimidation of a victim, sexual harassment, stalking, and taking and disseminating pictures of the victim.
The FIR names three more people, one of which is Preetham Gowda, a former Hassan BJP MLA. According to police sources, Preetham Gowda, Kiran, and Sharath are the accused of sharing pictures that Prajwal Revanna took during a video chat in which the victim was being sexually harassed.
Sections 354, A, D, B, 506, E, and 66 E of the Information Technology Act (sexual harassment, stalking, assault or use of force, and intentional or knowing capture, publication, or transmission of images of private areas without consent) are the ones under which the fourth formal complaint has been filed.
On the evening of April 26, almost a month after departing Germany, Prajwal Revanna made his way back to India following the appearance of many pornographic videos purportedly featuring him on social media. On May 31, he was taken into custody at the airport in Bengaluru.
