The National Testing Agency said last evening that the combined CSIR-UGC-NET exam, which was supposed to take place between Tuesday and Thursday, has been postponed due to a significant paper leak controversy. In a circular, the testing organisation stated that “unavoidable circumstances as well as logistic issues” were the reason for the exam’s postponement.
It stated that the updated timetable for administering this test will be made public via the official website at a later time.
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Lectureship (LS), and Assistant Professor positions in Indian universities and colleges are filled through the Joint CSIR UGC NET, if the candidate meets the requirements set forth by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Ministry of Education cancelled the UGC-NET exam on Wednesday, just a day after it was held, citing “integrity of the exam may have been compromised”.
“On 19th June, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination. These inputs prima-facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” the Ministry of Education said in a release.
There was a great deal of unhappiness among the student body over the decision to cancel the UGC-NET exams, with many claiming that the NTA had conducted the exams improperly.
A high-level committee would be established, stated Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was under fire for the anomalies in NEET and the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam.
According to Mr. Pradhan, the UGC chairman tallied the original paper and decided right once to launch a CBI probe after learning about questions on the darknet from the home ministry’s cybercrime division. Additionally, after it was determined that the exam’s integrity had been compromised, it was decided to cancel it.
