According to insiders, actor-turned-politician and leader of the Jana Sena Pawan Kalyan is expected to run for the position of deputy chief minister in the Andhra Pradesh government. As Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to take the oath of office as chief minister on Wednesday, he will also run for five cabinet positions on behalf of the Jana Sena.
On Tuesday, MLAs from the Jana Sena party chose Pawan Kalyan, the leader of the party, to lead the Andhra Pradesh Assembly as floor leader.
The action was taken in advance of the NDA lawmakers’ gathering to choose Chandrababu Naidu to lead them in the House.
Legislator N Manohar of Jana Sena Tenali put forth Pawan Kalyan’s nomination for floor leader of the Assembly, and other members overwhelmingly agreed, according to party sources.
With a margin of more than 70,000 votes, Pawan Kalyan defeated Vanga Geetha of the YSR Congress Party to win the Pithapuram Assembly seat.
There are 21 members of the Jana Sena in the 175-member House.
In Andhra Pradesh, the NDA easily defeated the TDP, taking 164 Assembly seats (Janasena, 21, TDP, and 8).
With the induction of MLAs, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly session will begin on June 17. The following day, a new Speaker will be chosen.
In the Andhra cabinet, out of 25 seats, 20 belong to the TDP, 3 to the Jana Sena + Deputy Chief Minister position, and 2 are probably for the BJP. This is known as seat sharing (TDP – JSP – BJP).
