Tejashwi Yadav Urges Nitish Kumar to Use “Kingmaker” Role for Bihar’s Special Status

Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the RJD, stated on Thursday that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ought to use his role as the “kingmaker” in the NDA to guarantee Bihar’s unique identity.

Images of the RJD leader aboard a flight to Delhi with his former employer went popular on social media on Wednesday. Following the failure of the BJP to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha Election, both the NDA and its partners INDIA took a plane to the nation’s capital to have discussions.

“NDA has numbers but we want the government which will be formed to take care of Bihar and ensure that it gets special status. It is a good opportunity for Nitish Kumar if he is the kingmaker, he should make sure that Bihar gets a special status and conduct caste-based census in the entire country,” Mr Yadav told news agency ANI, adding that for the first time, PM Modi’s “magic was finished” and he would be dependent on NDA allies to form a government.

With his history of shifting positions in politics, Nitish Kumar’s picture with the two leaders created speculation that there would be an INDIA reunion. Mr. Kumar travelled the nation last year in an attempt to enlist the backing of opposition figures in order to forge a cohesive front against the BJP-led NDA.

Mr. Yadav could be seen seated behind Mr. Kumar on the aeroplane in one of the widely shared pictures. But, a few moments later, a different set of pictures was taken, in which the erstwhile allies of India were seated close to one another and grinning. “We greeted each other, I was allotted the seat behind him but he saw me and called me to sit with him,” stated Mr. Yadav.

The Election Commission of India released the results, which show that the BJP-led NDA got 294 seats in the 543-member Parliament, 22 seats more than the majority of 272, and the INDIA Opposition group earned 234 seats, falling short of the majority by 38 seats.

These days, the keys to power are in the hands of NDA allies Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP and Nitish Kumar of the JDU. It is understood that leaders of INDIA approached the two during their alliance with the BJP to persuade them to join the Opposition group.

KC Tyagi, a JDU politician and close adviser to Mr. Kumar, told news agency ANI that the party will stick with the BJP coalition, despite Mr. Naidu’s pledge of support for the NDA.
