Ayodhya Surprise: Dalit Leader Credits Win to Divine Intervention and Grassroots Backing

A big upset for the BJP occurred in the recently finished Lok Sabha polls in the UP constituency of Faizabad, which includes the shrine city of Ayodhya. The ruling party’s seat was taken by SP veteran Awadhesh Prasad.

On Tuesday, nine-time legislator Prasad defeated two-time BJP member Lallu Singh by a vote count of 54,567. The Akhilesh Yadav-led party’s new caste calculation, which was used to field the 78-year-old popular Dalit leader from this non-reserved seat, is primarily to blame for the SP’s impressive performance in the general elections, which saw them win 37 of the 80 LS seats in the state.

The Supreme Court’s directive to build the Ram temple led the BJP to attempt to claim credit for it. They made a failed attempt to use the temple controversy to gain political points by drawing attention away from more pressing problems like the threat posed by wandering livestock and the problems of unemployment, poverty, and inflation. It was the people who were battling the BJP, not me, that was running against them. I have never received such love and support from people as I have during the last two months of the poll campaign.
