‘It’s Obvious Opposition Conceded Defeat, ‘ Says BJP As Congress Skips Exit Poll

Ahead of the seventh and final round of the Lok Sabha election, in which the party is seeking for a record third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress’s choice to forego exit poll debates has given the BJP more ammo. Both BJP chief JP Nadda and the party’s chief strategist, Union Minister Amit Shah, declared that it was evident that the opposition had surrendered defeat following the declaration made by prominent Congressman Pawan Khera.

In a Hindi post on X, formerly Twitter, Amit Shah said, “Congress has come to know about its huge defeat, so with what face will it face the media and the public now? Therefore, Congress is running away from the exit polls. I want to tell the Congress party not to run away, face the defeat and introspect”.

Objecting to Congress decision, Mr Nadda, in a post on X, said: “It doesn’t behove India’s Grand Old Party to behave like a child, whose toy has been taken away. One expects a certain level of maturity from the largest political party in the Opposition”.

According to him, the Congress “opts out” when it doesn’t anticipate favourable outcomes. But if the party believes it has even a remote chance, he said, it turns up.

Nobody can fail to notice their hypocrisy. He declared, “Let no one in Phase 7 squander their votes on them.”

He added that the Congress was casting doubt on the meticulous process conducted by multiple reputable organisations that work around the clock to produce the data by refusing to participate in exit polls.

Congress spokesman Pawan Khera stated earlier today that after the vote is finished, speculation will yield no benefits.

“The results will be out on 4th June. Prior to that, we do not see any reason to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP,” he said in a statement shared on X.

“In the discussions around exit polls, the Indian National Congress would not take part. Any debate’s main goal ought to be to educate the public. We would gladly participate in the debates starting on June 4th,” Mr. Khera continued.

Tomorrow marks the final day of voting for representatives to fill 57 seats spread across seven states and one Union Territory. This completes the extensive seven-phase process to constitute the 19th Lok Sabha. Tuesday is when the votes will be counted.
