Cash Seizure Scandal Unveiled: Congress Highlights Secretary’s Alleged BJP Ties

Following the seizure of cash worth crores of rupees by the Enforcement Directorate from an individual claiming to be the home helper of Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary (PS) of Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam, the Congress claimed that Lal was also the PS of a former BJP minister.

Several “incriminating” documents and over Rs 25 crore in cash were reportedly taken from the home assistant of Sanjiv Lal, who has served as Alam’s personal secretary ever since he assumed office as Jharkhand’s Cabinet minister, according to ED sources.

According to Jharkhand Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha, Alam, a member of the Congress and the state’s minister for rural development, has denied any connection to the objects that were confiscated.

“Any minister has two personal secretaries – one is a private one and the other is a government officer. Sanjiv Lal is a government officer, and has in the past been a PS to former BJP minister C P Singh as well,” Sinha said.

“Alamgir ji has told me that he has no connection with it (the seized cash). It seems that the raids were timed to be conducted ahead of the arrival of Rahul Gandhi in Jharkhand,” he said.

To begin his electoral campaign in Jharkhand, Rahul is expected to visit the state on Tuesday.

Lal served as C P Singh, the personal secretary of BJP MLA and former state minister from 2014 until 2019, according to Singh’s confirmation. During my time there, Singh claimed, “I had been extremely watchful and cautious, and I had received no complaints regarding him.”

Babulal Marandi, the leader of the Jharkhand BJP, stated earlier on Monday that the ED’s seizure of cash “proves the crimes of (former CM) Hemant Soren” in a post on X.
