Kisan Mahapanchayat: Farmers From Punjab Arrive At Ramlila Maidan, Protest Likely To Intensify

Punjab Farmers have arrived at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to take part in ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ led by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) putting forward farmers’ demands including a law on minimum support price to press the centre.

The Delhi Police allowed the farmers to gather on a pre-condition to keep the limit of 5,000 farmers without tractor and trolleys. However the SKM said that more than 30,000 farmers are expected to come from Punjab.

The gathering of farmers to take part in the “Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat” on Thursday raised slogans against the central government.

The SKM outfit that led the farmers’ protests in 2020-2021 at Delhi’s borders has again said that a resolution will be taken during the “Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat” to further intensify the protest against the union government.

Farmers led protests in 2020-2021 against three agriculture laws that were finally repealed. The farmers’ often termed them “black laws”.

Farmers have again reiterated their main demand for the guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) at the gathering at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.

Utpal Biswas, a 39-year-old farmer from West Bengal said, “our main demand is a legally guaranteed minimum support price” adding “today’s protest is supposed to last for a day but we will see how it progresses”.
