The Delhi Assembly will have a trust vote after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s push amid allegations from his party against BJP of attempting to “poach” Aam Aadmi Party MLAs.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister will also appear in the Delhi High Court to explain why he skipped all the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in alleged Delhi liquor policy case.
This comes before the ED’s sixth summons to Mr Kejriwal on February 19.
Pushing for the vote of confidence in the Assembly on Friday, Mr Kejriwal said, two members of his party told him that BJP approached them and claimed that the Delhi Chief Minister will soon be arrested.
“The MLAs were told that 21 AAP legislators have agreed to leave the party and more are in touch with the BJP. They offered the MLAs ₹ 25 crore to join the BJP. The MLAs told me they did not accept. When we spoke to other MLAs, we found that they had not contacted 21, but seven. They were trying to carry out another Operation Lotus,” said Mr Kejriwal.
He further said, “I want to show that none of our MLAs defected, and all remain steadfastly aligned with us”.
In 70-member Assembly the Aam Aadmi Party has 62 MLAs while BJP has only 8. This is the second time the Arvind Kejriwal government has sought a vote of confidence.
