In a Sunday night encounter with police’s C60 Commandos in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli, three Naxalites—including a dalam commander—were slain.
The confrontation between Mane Rajaram and the Perimili armed outpost took place in the jungle at Kedmara.
Naxals were reportedly camped up in the jungle, according to information the police obtained. The Gadchiroli police sent two C60 parties to begin a search operation in the jungle based on the information.
The C60 groups came under fire from the Naxals while the search operation was in progress. The bodies of three Naxal commanders who were killed in the exchange of fire, together with their weapons and other belongings, were found.
Bitlu Madavi, the leader of Perimili Dalam, Vasu, and Srikant, the leader of Aheri Dalam have all been recognised as Naxals. Bitlu Madavi was the main suspect in the March 9 slaying of a student.
Following the encounter, a search operation was started, and it is still going.
