Addressing a rally during election campaign in Karnataka’s Belur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took out a dig at Congress over it’s infighting. He even named HD Kumarswamy’s Janata Dal Secular, which is also a major party in the state.
He called both the Congress and JDS as “symbols of instability”. “Wherever there are Congress governments in the country, their signature is infighting between the leaders. You know what’s happening in Rajasthan or Chhattisgarh. The people there now know all the promises made by the Congress ahead of the election are a bundle of lies,” he further said.
Referring to JDS the Prime Minister said, “The Congress leaders fight among themselves. The Congress’s B Team JDS is also dreaming. They want to participate in the loot by somehow securing 15 or 20 seats”.
There are rumours if there is no absolute majority in the state then the Congress and JDS will form alliance to kick BJP out of power in Karnataka. However, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Congress Chief DK Shivakumar have refuted the rumours.
“Here in Karnataka, the Congress and the JDS are making a show of opposing each other. But you pull out the videos of the Congress and JDS leaders ahead of the elections. They were going against each other, but no sooner the election was over, they tied up,” said PM Modi.
Top union ministers and key party leaders of BJP have been continuously campaigning in Karnataka as it is the only south state where the party holds power. PM Modi has also planned multiple rallies in the state as BJP is hoping to regain power.
Meanwhile, it might be a tough run for BJP as Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai led government in state has been alleged for bribery and corruption in state.
In 2022, Congress had alleged that the state’s ruling BJP government had been earning 40% commission from contractors, builders and others.
