Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Advises Wearing Of Mask For Children Amid Adenovirus Surge

Amid the surge in adenovirus cases in state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked children to wear masks.

This comes at a time when the adenovirus has infected a number of children and many have even succumbed to the infection.

However, CM stressed that there is no need to panic and take necessary precautions. She said, out of 19 children who died, 13 had underlying diseases.

The West Bengal CM said that one should immediately consult a doctor if a child has cough and cold and be admitted to hospital if he/she has fever.

As per the United Nations Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adenovirus can cause mild to severe illness in the body especially in respiratory tract.

Children of all age are most vulnerable, however more common in infants and younger ones.

The virus may lead to mild to severe illness. The severe symptoms include sore throat, fever, pink eye, acute bronchitis, acute gastroenteritis and pneumonia etc.

Children who don’t have strong immune system or who have other respiration related problems are more prone to the infection.
