Shinde Faction Proposes Bharat Ratna For VD Savarkar At 1st National Executive Meeting

The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction conducted its first national executive meeting on Tuesday, days after receiving the party name and bow and arrow symbol from the Election Commission. Resolutions were put forth at the gathering, one of which demanded Vinayak Damodar Savarkar be awarded the Bharat Ratna.

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, presided over the national executive gathering. Renaming Churchgate Railway Station after former Union Finance Minister Chintamanrao Deshmukh was another idea brought up at the gathering.

Other ideas that were considered in the conference included giving sons of the soil (Bhoomiputra) in the state an employment rate of 80%. In all the projects, local youth will receive 80% of the employment.

Marathi will receive the designation of an elite tongue (abhijat).

In addition, the Shiv Sena faction headed by Uddhav Thackeray has called for Savarkar to receive the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in India.

The Eknath Shinde faction was given the moniker Shiv Sena and the party’s bow and arrow symbol by the Indian Election Commission last week. This was a major setback for the Uddhav Thackeray group, which had been battling for control of the party’s name and symbol since Shinde’s uprising the previous year.
