BJP MP Used Emergency Exit Without Authorization, Indigo Issues Statement

On December 10 of last year, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya is accused of opening the emergency exit of an IndiGo plane at Chennai Airport without permission. Tejasvi Surya represents Bengaluru South in the Lok Sabha as a member of the BJP.

Earlier, the involved airline, IndiGo, has declined to make any comments about the event. The airline later acknowledged the occurrence, saying, “On December 10, a passenger on Flight 6E 7339 from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli unintentionally unlocked the emergency escape during boarding. The traveller expressed regret for the behaviour.”

According to a story in The News Minute, Chennai airport authorities and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials both acknowledged the occurrence in which an emergency exit door was opened by a passenger.

According to a story that cited an eyewitness, Karnataka BJP MP Tejasvi Surya unlocked the emergency exit. The eyewitness said that he was forced to apologise.

According to reports, the incident happened as the cabin staff was educating the passengers on safety procedures. According to the report, the BJP MP who was also paying attention to the required emergency protocols “pressed the lever forcing the emergency exit to open.” Following the event, every passenger was required to disembark the aircraft and board a bus.
