The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Sunday won the bypoll elections for Munugode Assembly seat defeating BJP in the fierce competition.
This contest was completely a watershed moment for Congress and it was completely out of competition with its contestant even failing to save the deposit.
Both the TRS and BJP had overcome all the stops to win the seat leading to unexpected 93% voting.
Till the fifty round, the contest was like a sea-saw battle among the BJP and TRS. But then K Prabhakar Reddy of TRS took the lead by more than 500 votes than K Raj Gopal Reddy of BJP. At the end of the voting, TRS stood with the highest numbers at 97,006, BJP at 86,697, while Palvai Sravanthi Reddy of Congress at 23,906.
After losing two out of three by-elections against the BJP, this win is itself a positive indicator for TRS ahead the 2023 general elections.
Raj Gopal had won against the Congress and BSP last time by becoming allies with the left parties. This time both these parties have helped TRS to win.
However, despite this big win the TRS cannot sit with folded hands as to win at the national level BJP cannot be undermined.
In its preparation, the TRS had appointed 14 state ministets and around 50 to 60 MLAs to cover every inch of the Munugode seat.
